“Never give up. Great things take time.” We have heard this several times, but some people lived it this way. Dermatologist and Cosmetologist, Janak Thakkar is one of them who is so aspiring and inspirational for every medical aspirant who comes into this profession and makes their career in dermatology. His motto in life is first to become a good human being, and then you already became a good doctor. By nature, Dr. Janak Thakkar is extremely simple, humble, hard-working, fun-loving, and is a strong believer in serving and giving back to society.
Born and Brought up
Dr. Janak Thakkar is born in Savarkundala and brought up in Ahmedabad. He came from a very needy family who had to undergo a lot of struggles. He lost his father in an accident at a very young age. But he pursued his father’s dreams of becoming a doctor. He studied very hard and got into one of the topmost medical college named B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad on his merit basis. He opted for a Scholarship to pursue his MBBS in 1975 as he could bear the expense and fees of medical Education. In 1979. He completed his MBBS degree, and after a year of internship, he moved to the Rajkot. He got married in December 1980. Furthermore, he completed his MD in 1984 after which he started his practice as a Dermatologist and fulfilled his father’s dream.
Moving on the Journey
In 1984 Janak Thakkar shifted to Rajkot and started his practice there. With the support of his uncle, he later became one of the topmost and most demanded dermatologists and skin specialists of Rajkot. He has a deep sense of gratitude for the people of Rajkot for all love, respect, name, and fame provided by them. He has also owed to government sectors and nationalized banks to help him by giving him a loan for his education without any security and mortgage when he struggled to find a place for his clinic in Rajkot.
After starting his first laser and cosmetologist practice in 2000, he then started his clinic named Orna Skin center and hair care in 2012. Dr. Thakkar considers Dr. Bharat Shah, under whose guidance he became the MD, a role model. Dr. Thakkar learned etiquette required in this profession and also to always follow certain ethics and standards from Dr. Bharat Shah. He also considers Gandhiji as a role model as he has been deeply impacted by Gandhiji on his mind and his character. After reading, “SATYANA PRAYOGO” several times, he has also started following the principles of Gandhiji in real life. Last but not least, his mother is his greatest role model. She had raised him alone like a true warrior and gave him a good upbringing, good education, and good values.
Struggles and Hindrances
He had to face several challenges during the initial days of his practice as being a skin specialist was not respected much as a profession amongst people. But Dr. Thakkar and his team worked hard to change this belief about skin specialists, and in a few years, Dermatology became the no. 2 demanding branch in the Medical field. Dr. Janak Thakkar is one of the top cosmetologists in Rajkot city and runs four skin centers including ORNASKIN and hair care center in Rajkot city. He takes good care of all his employees and treats them like a family. Before COVID-19, he showered several incentives including arranging a DUBAI TRIP for all his employees. In the current time of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has insured all his employees with COVID-19 insurance and given all of them full salaries. He is also very involved in social works and gives his service to many charitable trusts including owning several charitable trusts himself. He is very fond of singing, photography, and traveling and has done several stage programs in singing.
Achievements made in the journey
He has earned a huge list of awards and accolades in his journey. He has also been elected as vice-president of the Dermatologist Association also served as Executive member and laser join secretary. He has been also able to add state, National and International levels awards in his achievement basket. But for him, the major achievement is his goodwill, and the trust he has earned of his patients and Rajkot’s people.
What’s in the future?
Dr. Thakkar plans to retire soon as his son is practicing with him and ready to take charge of his clinic. This way he can serve people and needy patients and do some work for the well-being of Society.
