Having beautiful dreams is fantastic, but they simply remain as dreams without a plan to act on them. Successful people are those who bring the dream to reality by preparing goals and working towards them daily. Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist Mansi Sheth is one of them who stays dedicated to making her dreams a reality. She firmly believes that challenges are required to change you and make you work with more dedication towards your dreams.
Born to serve with passion:
Mansi was born on 19th July 1996 in Rajkot. She completed her schooling till 12th in Rajkot. Her father, –Mr. Bhavesh Sheth – is a businessman, and Mother – Neeta Sheth – is a homemaker. In 2014, she cleared an entrance exam for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at Bharti Vidyapeeth in Pune.
Her family is her strength, and they support her at every step. She received immense help and motivation from her elder brother –Jay Sheth, to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Course from Pune. She believes that it would not have been possible for her to come to this point in life without support from her family.
She got married to Jay Kurani. Like her parents, her in-laws – Mr. Haresh K Kurani and Mrs. Dipti H Kurani – are also very supportive. They would suggest different ideas and encourage her to serve more.
Her hobbies include reading novels and exploring new places.
Growing up ambitiously:
It was her dream to become a doctor when she was a kid. She started preparing for that career and opted for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, as there are very few professionals in India working in this area. This is a field where professionals treat hearing and speech-related difficulties. They mainly focus on diagnosing followed by preventing, and treating hearing, speech, language, and swallowing disorders. She feels that more expertise in society is needed to cure people suffering from speech and hearing issues with a growing population. Since Speech problems are primarily found in children, she has always been motivated to cure such difficulties to ensure they have a prosperous future.
By nature, she has always been motivated to help society, which is why she joined the medical profession. She feels delighted when she makes others happy. Her patient’s smile and happiness when they recover make her more dedicated and motivated towards her profession. She firmly believes that being in a medical profession requires a combination of intellect, care, and dedication.
Marching ahead to spread her wings:
After completing her education in 2018, she joined the Phonic speech and hearing clinic, Patil hospital, Pune, one of the most reputed ENT hospitals. She got the best experience and exposure working in the hospital. However, after working there in 2020, she felt like working in her hometown in Rajkot. She had seen that there are many people at Saurashtra who suffer from hearing & speech problems. Due to a lack of experts in the Saurashtra Region, people traveled outside to get treated. With her experience and expertise, she was motivated to serve people at Rajkot.
In 2020, she joined the Global Speech and hearing Clinic in Rajkot. So far, she has participated in and arranged many awareness sessions and free camps as a duty towards society. She used to arrange free checkups and awareness camps for the elderly population who have hearing disabilities. During her tenure at Pune, she was a part of camps organized in schools for children who have speech and hearing difficulties.
In 2021 she opened her clinic –My Sound Centre. She feels blessed to serve society and grateful for the support of her family. She is catering to patients from Rajkot and nearby cities from her clinic. In her clinic – My Sound Centre – they also join interns to learn and serve society. She feels happy that they would be among very few clinics at Saurashtra to welcome interns and shape their careers most efficiently.
Challenges are what change you:
On her first step towards Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology course, she faced many challenges as she moved to Pune for the first time. Being alone in a new city, new people everywhere, a new beginning of her career, and above all new language, it was difficult for her to settle and adjust initially. It also became necessary for her to learn the local language as being a medical professional it is needed to communicate in the local language so that patients can express themselves more clearly. So she also started adapting to Marathi culture and learning the language and some of the lifestyle.
Dealing with kids, especially specially-abled children, has always been a challenging yet encouraging task for her. Eventually, she started loving her work and became passionate about making them learn things in a new way. The ultimate recognition and the most inspiring part of her work is the slight smile, sparkling light, and happiness on the face of parents when their child speaks for the first time.
Hard work recognized:
She presented a research paper at the 49th INDIAN SPEECH AND HEARING ASSOCIATION conference (ISHACON) held in Kolkata. She has achieved the best clinical conference award for delivering a research paper on DYSPHAGIA (Swallowing difficulties) and the best clinician award in 2017.
What is in the future?
Mansi and her team plan to arrange camps in rural areas and cities where requisite treatments are unavailable. Additionally, they are also planning to start a chain of My Sound Centre clinics targeting untapped places that require professionals to cure their problems. Another area that she intends to expand is in developed cities so that patients get treatment in cost-efficient ways.
