Tanmay Vyas was born in middle class family on July 5, 1968 at Zalod – Gujarat. His father was into the business and mother was a homemaker.
He has spent his childhood days in the Gujarat Housing board quarters when his father was struggling in the chemical business setup. Hard-works of his father paid well and business grew well. Vyas family shifted to the pose area of Ahmedabad, brought a bungalow, cars and expanded business.
KT group has seen many ups and downs in the business. They have seen that two decades of golden era of KT group of business when they were supplying KT detergent to the Indian Military and also seen shut down of business due to one small account and finance team mistake invited big trouble in that business, resulted into the income tax raid for 18 years.
Failure became the reason for the success
Tanmay was not serious about his studies during schooling days. He was not sure about his career but he was considering his father’s business as a backup. He secured good score in this 10th grade exams but tasted failure in the 12th science exams because of his overconfidence. He learnt a lot from that failure and started thinking about his career seriously.
Investment in learning pays later
He has started reading all time day and night. His regular reading became his habit. He has started reading other than syllabus books too. He has started visiting book fairs but Russian book fair became his unforgettable memory and life changing moment. In that bookfair he was just seeing book covers as books were in the English and he was not that comfortable with English literature. One of the titles of the book worth rupees 75 changed his fate.
He got that book on the astronomy and returned home with the nervousness and confusions as he was not aware about purpose of purchasing that expensive book. One of his friends studying into the English medium school helped him understand that book context and advised to buy a dictionary. Tanmay bought a dictionary and translated it for intense meaning of it.
His passion led him to the next level
Tanmay was keen to build career in the Astronomy field amid opposition from father. His father got him one 20by60 binocular from Madras accidentally. His passion got momentum through this binocular and he spent so many sleepless nights to watch sky, stars and thinking about that Astro world. Later, he started buying and exploring expensive magazines and concern stuffs on it.
Tanmay had to face criticism and hurdles for his endeavour of starting first club for the Astronomy in the year 1986. People of Ahmedabad accepted astronomy field at initial level when they got one more astronomy club in the year 1989 from another young talent. In the 1989 Vatsal Thakkar has started astronomy club near community science centre.
Big support during his struggling days
Tanmay was in the struggling phase of his career but one more challenge came into the life was his marriage. His family wanted him to get married soon while he wanted to marry her school time friend but due to his unstable career that was challenging. Finally, he got married to his friend – Urvi in the year 1991. Tanmay is lucky to have such supporting life partner.
Passion turns into the profession
He has started attending and organizing astronomy related events, eclipse shows and talks. He has his own small library for materials on astronomy. Tanmay and his team always have ignored hurdles and obstacles while travelling at remote locations to became witness of eclipse from binocular.
In the early 2000s, he started getting recognition for his passion of astronomy field. he was tensed about his family businesses issues. He decided to turn his passion into the profession and brought one telescope from the Mumbai for professional purpose.
Rewarding Journey
Hard-work of Tanmay paid well and he started earning well from the shows. 2001,02 and 03 were the years when he gave back-to-back shows and got fame.
Nasa appointed him as a brand ambassador in the year 2004 for the Ahmedabad. He also got project from the ISRO as a subject expert for one film on the Monsoon. He was then recognised by everyone as synonym for the astronomy field.
Helping hands of his life
Tanmay and his family will be always thankful to the GK Choksi. Gautam Choksi – a renowned CA helped his family in that income tax raid and legal issues and also helped Tanmay in getting a job. Tanmay has started working with GK Choksi firm as a manager for HR and Admin.
GK Choksi group has direct connections with one school in the Ahmedabad, where Tanmay delivered many sessions on the astronomy. Tanmay got emotional when he got an additional gift of costly telescope from respected Choksi family.
Bunch of achievements
2009 was declared as “The International year of astronomy” by “The UN general assembly” in collaboration with “the International Astronomical Union” Which has boosted the career of Tanmay as he has contributed immensely in the field. Special event on July 22, 2009 had drawn the attention of longest solar eclipse of the century too.
In the May 2009, there was an exhibition at the Gujarat University Ground and event organizer met Tanmay to help them in decide theme for astronomy. He did it so nicely without any commercial expectations in return organizer gifted him a dome and other resources which became the source of attraction, inspiration and knowledge enrichment of concern field.
Tanmay also received “Bade Dil Waale” Award from the RedFM for his outstanding contributions in the Astronomy. Tanmay is good in photography and he received many awards too.
Tanmay got honouring invitation by the Shape University to share his expertise in the year 2019 while Canada was celebrating 50th anniversary of Niel Arm Strong’s space achievement.
He has completed one assignment for TV commercial on astronomy theme for such a big brand Tata Motors. He delivered many talks on the astronomy field at Global platforms, many renowned radio channels, news channels, institutes and organizers considering him for Astronomy is the only achievement for him, awards hardly attract him.
Show must go on
Tanmay never considered money in his assignment of Astronomy. He collaborated with many schools and institute to deliver sessions, shows. He did many in a free too. He was associated with Ved Shala from 2013 to 2017 where he has started theory and practical sessions in a free.
Tanmay and team spent almost 5 lakhs rupees and travelled to Wuhan, China for the longest solar eclipse of the century but unfortunately it was cloudy at that duration and they return back with disappointment.
During lockdown he has started online sessions on the astronomy and conducted 150+ sessions during lockdown and till date he has 500+ videos in his YouTube Channel.
He is enjoying his journey and happy to be the part of such a field where person from any field can contribute his or her best.
