Today Roshni Dhal is the Co-founder of HIGHONM ( High on Marketing). No, it’s not a ‘high’ that comes with Marijuana, it’s a high that comes with empowering others to achieve goals.
Childhood from not a great financial background egged Roshni to learn quickly. Completing her basic education in the middle of financial constraints was very tough. Aspiring to become a Doctor, she had to ditch that dream because of financial challenges. However, after completing her 10th grade she was told to take up the commerce stream – not given a choice in any way. Her heart wanted to pursue science, where her interest was. Notwithstanding that she completed her 12th grade with excellent grades.
In India, a government job means security. Roshni’s mother would pray in full earnest for her to land a government job. In the year 2013-14, government jobs would pay approximately INR 10K / USD 180 per month. Being intelligent she was asked to pursue the Company Secretary course and not a Chartered Accountants course, again not being given a choice, though her preference was CA as against CS. Roshni managed to do her B.Com and CS simultaneously, now that her father’s business was doing decent and expenses were managed better than what it was in the past.
Times can change drastically, for the good or bad. In her case, it turned towards the bad side. Roshni’s father’s business suffered a big loss. Her younger brother was still in school and to add to the existing issues her Mother had a leg fracture and needed a six-month bed rest with a mounting medical bill. The financial curse was back and she had to drop out of the college where she pursued CS, taking a break to take care of her mother.
When times are tough, every second seems like a dying moment, leading to a low phase and at times depression. Roshni went through this exact cycle, understandably so! Financial and emotional turmoil leads to discontent between partners. Roshni’s parents would get into fights with no reason or justification. This disturbed the family peace to a great extent.
In the year 2012, fortunately, Rosini’s mother started walking which was a great relief. It was a chance for Roshni to resume her studies, but she had to support her tuition fees by doing small part-time jobs like Receptionist, Data Entry Operator, Accountant and also Call center jobs. Her woes were not done with, at the workplace, the disgusting behaviors of her co-workers pushed her to look for other openings. She began giving interviews, luckily a firm based in Gurgaon hired her in the HR department with a monthly salary of INR 12K/ USD 200. A much-needed break, she joined immediately. She left home to join the new workplace in Gurgaon.
Three years later in 2015, the job started getting mundane and despite doing her best she felt unappreciated. It was a blessing that she had started writing with LinkedIn. A year later, she decided it was time and let go of her HR job. She, however, was not compensated. She was bankrupt. Digital marketing somehow caught her attention. The USP was a Laptop lifestyle, work from home, travel for work and being your own boss, besides having time to enjoy with family and friends. Everything about this open-ended job seemed to be just what she wanted. Being used to a 9-5 job with a monthly paycheque, this format was not easy to adapt. It’s not just for Roshni but for anyone who had a regular job, moving track is challenging.
When the night is pitch dark, emerges from behind the clouds is a star. Gaurav Madaan was that star for Roshni. He became her mentor and guided her to master Digital Marketing. A mentor with a golden heart, ever grateful to him Roshni will always be. The Digital Marketing opening gave her a salary of INR 30K, a steep positive shift indeed.
Her mentor Gaurav, was not in favor of Roshni doing a job because he realized she had entrepreneur skills. The job helped her garner funds to support her campaigns hence she kept her job.
Learnings that come from a job is the best way to learn and Roshni learned fast. She cracked her first interview, thanks to her portfolio hack. Even today she is happy to share this secret with anyone who wants advice. It was time to exit marketing and take up consulting projects. She managed to get a foothold there through LinkedIn. In 2015 October the birth of HighOnM happened. Roshni and Gaurav Madaan were co-founders of this setup. HighOnM is a holistic program of Training and SAAS. In other words a True Amalgam of Training and SAAS Solution. Over 10,000 students have already benefited from it. HighOnM is consultants to business in different industries like Education, eCom, Digital Products, HR firms, Legal Firms, Fashion, Real Estate and many more.
To garner the best in customers, a filter or a funnel that guides prospective customers to the product or offer of the company is important. Roshni Dhal is also a “Sales Funnel Specialists. Roshni went through her low patches but emerged from those challenges to prove she is a winner. World over, more so in our country, being a female entrepreneur has its share of struggle. When a woman does well people try to malign her character but never losing hope and believing in oneself and following the ethical route is what success stories are made of.
