The man of conviction, passion and vision the Jaydev N Shah, President, Saurashtra Cricket Association and former cricketer with lots of achievements in his basket is the highlight here. Mr Jaydev who has been known for serving Saurashtra Cricket team as a cricketer and as an Admin of Cricket Association carries a personality that is impeccable and an ideal to follow. He has been looked up by lots of young players who inspire to play for the country and carry the same enthusiasm for the game within them.
Born and Brought up
Jaydev was born on 4th May 1983 at Rajkot, Gujarat. Born in the house of Mr. Niranjan Shah, Secretary BCCI & Saurashtra Cricket Association, cricket was supposed to be his future. He lost his mother at a very young age and was nurtured and pampered by his father and elder sister. Cricket has been a part of his life since his childhood. Between helping his father on grounds, travelling to different fields for new games with his father and assisting him while practicing, he grew up. He completed his graduation in B.Com from Kundaliya College, Rajkot. During his days in Panchgani where he spent some years of schooling, he used to play cricket and other sports a lot. He always had a keen interest in sports and loved to play cricket and Table Tennis. His sister has been a state-level Table Tennis player.
The journey from a Cricketer to President
Cricket has always been a companion in the life Jaydev. He has been involved with the game since his childhood. During his initial days of encounter with the game, he used to be on grounds with his father. He has attended lots of domestic and international games with him. He started as a helping hand for the ground and stadium work in the association. His focus has always been on his game style and practice. During his childhood, the Indian Cricket team played under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Jaydev had an interesting habit of collecting the striker on the field whenever he used to go to grounds with his father. He has always been inspired by the personality and game of Kapil Dev.
When he came back to Rajkot after the death of his mother, he turned his focus on playing in the Under-16 team. Soon he accomplished the goal and was part of the under-16 team. He then played for under-19 also. His first match in the under-19 team was quite tragic as he got hand injuries on the ball of Munaf Patel. Munaf Patel has been one of the fast bowlers in the Indian Cricket Team.
Jaydev was soon selected in Saurashtra Team for Ranji Trophy. Jaydev is a fitness freak and has always focused on his fitness. As he joined Saurashtra Team his only vision was to win Ranji Trophy and trophies for the association. He was very passionate about his game and carried a strong belief in himself. One who carries personality like him dare not afraid of failures but are more determined about the success. Soon he earned the title of Captain in Saurashtra Team and started building his team. He has always proved to be a great leader as what he focused was the team as a whole but worked on each player individually. Fitness has always been top of his list, so he made sure all his team player focused on fitness and practiced the same.
His team selection completely depended upon the performance of the player. Cheteshwar Poojara and Ravidra Jadeja who has been playing for Indian Cricket Team, has also been part of his team under his captaincy. As he started collecting trophies and recognition for his team and association, one of his starting awards was the Title of Champion in a match against Ajay Jadeja Team. This recognition brought lots of limelight to Saurashtra Cricket Team and association.
As a leader, he always encouraged game improvement and fitness for every player of his team. During his tenure of captaincy, he made sure to provide all the basic facilities to improve game and stay fit to his team. He worked on 360 degree improvement of game in player, bowlers improving the batting, fielders improving the bowling, batsman improving his fielding and bowling and vice-verse. He also won Ranji Trophy champion title after losing few games but his never-give-up attitude made him achieve it. As a great leader, he always made sure that his team was not dependent on him rather they practiced co-dependency and had their independent grounds always. He has proved to be one of the very effective and efficient captains for Saurashtra Cricket Team.
But soon he decided to resign and join the association as an Admin. Following the path of his father, the next generation putting in his best ideas to develop the association, just like his father. His next vision to develop Saurashtra Cricket Association. He looked forward to making Saurashtra Association an equipped training association which can accommodate more players and help them live their passion. He wanted to utilize this amazing platform, which carried the extremely hard work of his father and committee. Currently, they are working on an Indoor cricket stadium.
He visions a great future for Saurashtra Cricket Association providing a bright future to players joining in and taking domestic cricket on a better level. The association currently has world-class stadium and ground with 25 nets, 7 wickets (practice pitch). He has learned a lot from his father and just like him, he envisions to build better facilities at the association so that the future generation doesn’t have to bother about the facilities, debts and installments. Everything has to be done with proper financial planning and accomplished in the most cost-effective way,
What’s more interesting?
Regardless of the struggles, he faced in his life, he never stopped believing in himself. When he lost his mother to joining cricket team, he went through various emotional turmoil. As he took the captaincy he had to see downfalls after rising. But he made sure to strike back harder every time. And then he clean-bowled his struggles one day and achieved all his goals.
His Life Mantra and Advice
His main mantra of life is ‘Focus on one thing at a time’ and put all your dedication into it. He approves it to be the best meditation for the life. As his personality, he is a go-getter, passionate, focused and dedicated man. He believes in togetherness and loves to grow together than alone.
What’s in the future?
As a man of visions, his future holds a long list of goals he wants to accomplish. As he utilized the period of Covid-19 in improving his fitness, don’t want to waste any day of future life.
He looks forward to opening up an academy where the player can play 24 hours. Just like MCA Melbourne cricket association). He wants to get more important importance to Domestic cricket and help the team win more medals and a trophy.
